OPPORTUNITY WITH GLOBAL AKTION

Intern for our international project work

Are you passionate about mobilising civil society organisations in a global context? Global Aktion is looking for a project intern to assist in the planning of a partnership seminar in Johannesburg, South Africa in the Fall!

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark and Johannesburg, South Africa
Duration: Fall semester 2022 with expected starting date 8th of August
Application deadline: May 2 – 2022

Background

Global Aktion is an activist driven organisation with a small secretariat that works for structural change to create a better world where people and the planet comes before profit. We work in solidaric partnerships with social movements and civil society organisations in the Global South as a way to strengthen our common goal to end global inequality.

We have received a grant in collaboration with our South African partner the Trust for Community Outreach and Education (TCOE) from the Danish Civil Society Fund (CISU) to host a 6 day long partnership seminar in Johannesburg in the fall 2022. The seminar will host 60 representatives from our international solidarity alliance of activists from Denmark and our partnership organisations from Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Western Sahara and others.

The theme of the seminar is “Moving from thinking beyond COVID-19 to thinking and acting within COVID-19”. The objective of the partnership seminar is to strengthen the capacity of our global solidarity alliance to mobilise and engage in advocacy work, uphold struggles against shrinking civic space and keep communication strong during a time of crisis.

The partnership seminar will be planned by a seminar committee consisting of activists from GA, members from the secretariat, representatives from our partners and… you!?

Your role, responsibilities and skill set

The work of the seminar committee is highly strategic, however as an intern you will also be responsible for the practical arrangements related to the seminar in collaboration with the project coordinator in South Africa and the secretariat in Copenhagen. You will be engaged in both the planning, execution and follow up work of the seminar. You will be tasked to pay particular attention to securing the learning outcomes from the seminar, a continuous challenge for an activist led organisation. It is therefore expected that you are highly organised, a good collaborator, have strong communication skills and are proactive in your approach to your tasks. In return you will get an internship with a steep learning curve and the opportunity to familiarise yourself with an international network of strong-willed and political social organisations. There are also good opportunities for further collaboration with GA and our partners on thesis work etc.

Practical considerations

Your daily work will be in Copenhagen in our office at Nørrebro where you will be part of our small secretariat. However, the internship includes a work trip to South Africa in the end of October/start November which is mandatory.

The internship will be approximately 32 hours per week with flexible working hours which can accomodate for possible student assignments. You should expect that there will be a significant amount of meetings in the evenings and possibly also on some weekends. The internship is unpaid, but all travel activities in connection with the partnership seminar are covered by Global Action.

Please send your CV and motivation letter to our Project Officer Sofie Viborg on sofie@globalaktion.dk or call +45 3535 9232 for more information.

We expect to hear from you before May 2 after which relevant candidates will be invited to an interview.
