Solidarity statement:

Global Aktion for Black Lives Matter

Global Aktion stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, as we do not support racism in any way and actively reject the police brutality against the black population in the USA and racism against POC in any part of the world.

We are witnessing and experiencing a war right now. A people’s war against social inequality, injustice, and systemic racism focused on the violence targeting black people in the USA. It has been 401 years since the kidnapping, chaining, and shipping of the first African slaves across the Atlantic; 155 years since the enslaved were emancipated; and more than five decades since the passage of the voting rights acts.

The war between the BLACK Lives Matter movement (BLM) and US government police and army forces is what has caused the current, massive uprising of the movement. It was sparked by the most recent killing of George Floyd, who died in police custody, even though he repeatedly said he could not breathe and pleaded for his life. Police officer Derek Chauvin continued forcing his knee heavily on Floyd’s neck, which ended up killing him.

Black people dying in police custody is not at all a new phenomenon, as it has happened to Sandra Bland, Ahmaud Arbery, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, and many, many more. This kind of modern-day lynching has the same outcome as lynching itself, namely, to enforce racial hierarchy and oppression while terrorizing black people into accepting abusive mistreatment and subordination. Victims were often publicly tortured for hours only to leave their brutalized bodies on display to traumatize other black people.

Systemic racism is not only real in the American context. Racism is an all too present reality for People of Colour (POC) globally, with racism experienced at every level of social interaction. It persists in our schools, offices, court systems, police department, workplaces, and elsewhere. When white people occupy most positions of decision-making power, POC have a difficult time of getting a fair share, or a seat at the table.

Global Action actively fights against global inequality and the oppression of movements. In that light, Black Lives Matter is a movement that Global Aktion stands in solidarity with, as we do not support racism in any way and actively reject the police brutality against the black population in the USA and racism against POC in any part of the world.
